AC cars started their life in the early years of this century producing small 3 wheelers called 'Sociables' powered by a small two cylinder engine. AC Weller designed a superb 6 cylinder all alloy unit in 1926 and this same engine design was used in the AC Ace and other models right up until the mid 1960s.

The remains of an AC motor car were found, lying in the dry moat of Framlingham Castle in Suffolk with a chassis broken in two and without an engine. Careful research in 1965 found the previous owner, who was still in possession of the original engine in pieces in his loft, and who gave his permission to remove and restore it.

By 1974 the extensive works were completed and a decision had to be made regarding colours for coachwork and upholstery. From scraps of 'tired' paint we decided to go for Grey with the dark red upholstery and now these have mellowed to a superb period patina along with the rest of the car.

Being all aluminium the car is very light and therefore gives a comfortable performance with plenty of space inside. Only a few 4/5 seat tourers were made as most sales were of the two seater with folding 'dickey' seat behind. These 'stretched' tourers had a longer wheelbase and therefore gave lots of legroom and space in the passenger area, ideal for voluminous bride's dresses!
