The MG SA was designed to compete with the SS Jaguar 100, Triumph and Riley. They are equipped with a 6-cylinder pushrod engine with twin SU carburettors which in prototype performance was 2 litres. "The Motor" wrote that the elegant body lines suggesting a car that cost 1000 pounds, when in fact a Saloon cost 375 pounds. In competitions, the car was not a success, the car's acceleration was modest but with the ability to cruise at just over 70 mph.

They were available as a factory-built Saloon also Drophead made from body-builder Salmons & Sons (later called Tickford) and a 4 door Tourer made by Charlesworth. Out of the 2738 MG SA's built, 696 were Tickfords.

KS7308 has coachwork built by Salmons known as a Tickford Coupe. The car was running up till 1971 but fell into disrepair, but in 2005 a major restoration was started. The engine was rebuilt and the body was restored and rebuilt. This early model has unusual peardrop wings and opening side vents to the bonnet as well as an open spare wheel at the back. It was believed to have been black with a green roof.
